Julie Jones Julie Jones

I am a secondary English and music teacher, mother of two, and a child of the military (my father served in the Navy for 20 years). Living all over the US and in several foreign countries has given me a diverse life experience, which has shaped who I am today and given me a unique perspective on life. I earned my AA degree from the University of Maryland at their campus in Mannheim, Germany, where I graduated as class Valedictorian. After moving back “home” to Oklahoma, I earned my BA in English at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, where I excelled in courses like Advanced Grammar, Linguistics, and Composition Theory.

I am known for my attention to detail; throughout college, I edited countless papers for fellow students, co-taught an English 101 class, worked in the school’s library and writing lab as a tutor, and worked as a transcriber/editor for an online business publication. Since graduating, I’ve taught 8th-, 9th-, and 10th-grade English, as well as World Literature and vocal music. I’m also involved with a non-profit organization championing human rights in the US justice system.

I have studied and taught literature and creative writing, but my passion is the technical side of writing: grammar, structure, and other aspects of “editing,” as well as ensuring the best method of clearly conveying the work’s message and the author’s intent. For examples of my writing or for references, please feel free to contact me!

Excerpt from "The Book of Genesis Personified in Steinbeck’s East of Eden":

East of Eden, John Steinbeck’s nineteenth novel, was first published in September of 1952, and by November of that year, was number one on the fiction best-seller list; it has never been out of print since.  However, the best-selling book of all time (selling over 100 million copies every year) is the Bible.  Read more...

Exerpt from "Cool Hand Luke as a Study of 1960's America":

The film Cool Hand Luke was released in 1967, starring Paul Newman and directed by Stuart Rosenberg.  The novel of the same name, on which the movie was based, was written by Donn Pearce in 1965.  At the time it was written, Kennedy had been assassinated, 32-year-old Martin Luther King, Jr. had made his “I Have a Dream” speech during the March on Washington, the struggle for “racial unity” and black radical movements had broken out, and Lyndon B. Johnson had just been elected president. Read more...Read more...

Exerpt from "Keeping Music Education Alive in Public Schools":

"Without music, life would be a mistake."  Friedrich Nietzsche, a nineteenth century German philosopher, was probably right.  According to the National Association for Music Education, "Music touches every human being from infancy to adulthood.  The power of musical sound can be the vehicle for expression of a wide variety of human emotions.  And not only does music move us emotionally, it activates our intellect."  Read more...
